Meal Plans for the Atkins Diet
The Atkins low carbohydrate diet plan is one of the most popular diets of the present day. Low carbohydrate diets are well known to promote fast weight loss. The problem for many people is that the Atkins diet can be hard to follow initially so they need meal plans to follow.
The basis of the Atkins plan is that carbohydrates should be cut from your diet. To do this it is necessary to plan what you are going to eat ahead of time and devise some meal plans. The Atkins diet requires forward planning, as the foods eaten on it are not always available “on the go”.
Breakfast on the Atkins diet
Toast and cereal are not allowed, but this leaves plenty of options. If you have time to cook the bacon and eggs, a cheese omelette or poached eggs are all acceptable. If you don’t have time for that leave some boiled eggs in the fridge, eat one of the proprietary snack bars on the market, or drink a high protein shake.
Lunch meal plans for the Atkins diet
Lunches for most of us consist of sandwiches, which are not allowed on the Atkins diet. It is probably easier to pack your own lunch, but a lot of food outlets will provide Atkins style meals for you if you ask.
The best options are salads of allowed vegetables with eggs, cheese, cold meats or fish.
Dinner meals for the Atkins diet
This is the chance to go wild on the Atkins diet. You still have to avoid carbohydrate but you can eat unlimited protein and vegetables. These can be served with butter-based sauces (no flour).
Snacks on the Atkins Diet
The Atkins diet meal plans allow for snacks, most commonly high protein ones that will keep up your energy levels and prevent hunger. You can devise your own snacks; such as cheese or a boiled egg, but the Atkins Company do make their own range of snack bars and shakes that fulfil the criteria for the diet. Many other companies have joined in the high protein low carb market so by looking around health stores you should be able to find something that you will like.
Whether you are a keen cook or you have a kitchen phobia it is possible to design meal plans for the Atkins diet. It does take a little work initially until you get used to the diet, but there are many book and web-based resources out there to help you.
One good site is the free site Atkins Diet Plan, Food and Menu for Beginners. This site is the official Atkins diet site and offers a detailed two-week plan, with recipes and alternatives, to start you off in the induction phase of the diet. They then lead you through to the other Atkins diet meal plans so you can maintain your weight loss.
An alternative less elaborate Atkins diet meal plan is available at http://www.aboutatkinsdiet.com/atkins_diet_induction_14days_atkins_menu.htm. The foods and recipes on this site are less elaborate, and that makes them less expensive, as well as easier to prepare.
