Are Low Carb Diets Good or Bad for Weight Loss Success?

Everybody has heard of low carbohydrate diets -- since they are emerging as the newest trend in dieting but do they really work? ...And if so, are they the resolution to weight loss that everybody is searching for?

We don’t think so, because most low carbohydrate diets have several issues which make losing weight very hard for the everday dieter.

For example, if you follow the Atkins diet (a popular low carb program) then the limitation on carbs for the first couple weeks is very severe (by almost any health standard).

The Atkins diet allows just 20 grams of "net carbs" per day during the first phase of the diet (which can last up to two weeks). Just to give you an example of how few carbohydrates that really is – even an oversized apple has over 20 grams of net carbohydrates.

This low level of carbs is often too taxing for the “everyday” dieter to tolerate for 2 weeks straight, in fact, consuming low amounts of carbohydrates can make a person feel "fatigued" and "irritable" all day long (becausee the body requires more carbs for energy than what's being provided.)

Other low carbohydrate diets (such as the South Beach Diet) are not as challenging on the body as the Atkins Plan, but even the South Beach diet could have been made a little easier to follow.

We believe that a successful diet needs to be easy to follow so people have a better chance at sticking to the diet and losing weight. It's important that people don't feel "fatigued" and "irritable" when dieting, because more often than not, that's how they fail.

We’re not saying that all low carb diets are as restrictive as the Atkins Diet, but most low carb diets are so hard to follow that “average dieters” wind up feeling hungry all the time.

We believe low carbohydrate intake is not the answer to weight loss. The average body needs a reasonable amount of all 3 types of calories to lose weight consistently (protein, carbs, and fat). All 3 types of calories need to be consumed in the right proportions. To begin losing weight fast we recommend using the new Idiot Proof Diet System that shows you exactly what you need to do to shed pound quickly and with your health in mind.
